Spam Tagging:
Our Backup Email Server Service filters all email we handle searching for Spam & Viruses. We pass all emails received through Spamassassin for spam scanning and ClamAV for virus scanning. Here is how we alter messages that are found to contain these annoyances:
Spam tagging: For any email over a certain score, Spamassassin will add the following header to the email:
Virus tagging: Email found to contain a virus, the following header is added:
- X-Virus-Scan: Scanned by clamdmail 0.14 on rh.lanechange.net (found Eicar-Test-Signature);
Note: The above x-virus-scan header is always added. What indicates the virus is the word “found” in brackets, followed by the virus name found, in the above example, it was the Eicar-Test-Signature.
Any email found with a virus will have the original email attached to a warning email that contains the above header. The subject of the email will read:
- “VIRUS ALERT! Eicar-Test-Signature found in attached mail by ClamAV.”
The actual subject will reflect the actual virus name found.
